The questions we'll be reviewing during this session:
Elmaleh-Sachs et al., JAMA 2023 :
1. What are the realistic weight-loss expectations from nutrition/behavior interventions alone versus pharmacotherapy (GLP-1s/tirzepatide) and surgery?
2. What nutritional strategies are supported for short-term intensive weight loss and which require medical supervision?
3. How should clinicians address expected weight regain after stopping pharmacotherapy?
Academy Position Paper 2016:
1. The Academy's EAL endorses a weight loss goal of 3% to 5% of baseline weight if cardiovascular risk factors are present. What is the clinical significance of achieving just 3% to 5% sustained weight loss?
2. Why does the Academy suggest that interventions incorporating more than one level of the socioecological model may be more successful than targeting a single level or factor alone?
3. Beyond typical nutrition assessment data, what are three key non-dietary, behavioral factors that the RDN is specifically recommended to assess according to the Evidence Analysis Library (EAL)?
Academy MNT Interventions from an RDN:
1. What minimum “dose” of RDN contact and duration does the Academy guideline recommend in order to optimize weight and cardiometabolic outcomes?
2. What specific RDN-delivered strategies produce clinically meaningful improvements?
3. How should RDNs incorporate telehealth and group delivery for MNT in obesity?
ADA Standards of Care 2025:
1. For patients with T2DM and obesity, how do the ADA Standards position pharmacotherapy (GLP-1s/tirzepatide) relative to MNT?
2. What diabetes-specific nutrition recommendations should be considered when designing a hypocaloric diet for someone with T2DM and obesity?
3. How do the Standards recommend integrating RDNs into diabetes/weight management teams?
