Weight Management DPG establishes network relationships with other organizations for special projects, resource sharing and to participate in coalitions with shared goals and objectives. Networks can be for short- term projects or meetings or for ongoing collaboration.
Over the years, the WM DPG has had network relationship with The Obesity Society (TOS) and The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). WM DPG currently has Network agreements with ASMBS and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). The Academy has a formal Alliance with TOS.
Academy Alliance - The Obesity Society
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has a formal alliance with The Obesity Society (TOS). Working with the Academy, as they execute the Alliance agreement, WM DPG provides input on issues that impact the DPG. WM DPG attends and exhibits at ObesityWeek®.
Who is TOS?

Joining TOS
The Obesity Society membership is open to all healthcare professionals working in the field of obesity. A dietitian may join TOS in their “Regular” member category. The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery
WM DPG has a formal network with The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). With similar missions, WM DPG and ASMBS share information useful to both organizations. In recent years (2024 and 2025), WM DPG also exhibited during the annual ASMBS meeting.
Who is ASMBS?
Founded in 1983, ASMBS plays an active role in promoting obesity surgery. Their committees are tasked with pursuing improvement in the insurance milieu, development and dissemination of information about surgical and patient care equipment, evolution of care standards, and involvement in malpractice litigation related to bariatric surgery. Joining ASMBS
A dietitian may join ASMBS as an Integrated Health (IH) Associate member. ASMBS IH members receive reduced registration at the ASMBS Annual Meeting and Ancillary courses. Membership benefits include ability to join the Find a Provider tool, be a part of the local ASMBS Chapter, and receive discounts for meeting attendance beyond what the WM DPG Network agreement provides. Obesity Action Coalition
WM DPG has a Network Agreement with the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). OAC is a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals affected by obesity through education, advocacy and support. OAC is the largest organization comprised of individuals affected by obesity and fights to improve access to obesity treatments and end weight bias and discrimination.
