Friend of WM DPG Award

The Friend of Weight Management Award was established to honor a respected professional whose work has enhanced the field of weight management and who has been a consistent supporter of RDNs and the DPG. This year’s awardee is Nate Sann, MSN, FNP-BC.

Nate Sann is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Scranton in Scranton PA, before being commissioned in the US Army as a Nurse Corps Officer. He served in several positions of increasing leadership and responsibility. His previous experience includes Bariatric Program Coordinator and Case Manager for general surgery services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. He has also worked in executive nursing handling the healthcare for the White House, Cabinet Members and General Flag Officers in the Military District of Washington. His past clinical experience includes, oncology, medical/surgical nursing and served as an ICU nurse in Iraq. 

After completing his service with the US Army, Nate completed his formal education and received his Masters of Nursing from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Nathan is a board-certified nurse practitioner with almost a decade of specialized expertise and research in bariatric and surgical weight loss patient care.

Nate is a nurse practitioner with Advanced Surgical Partners of Virginia. He provides both preoperative and long-term follow up for metabolic and bariatric surgery patients. He has developed a medical weight management program for the program as well.  He also serves as a preceptor faculty for other practice groups looking to develop bariatric programs.

Nate is very active in the ASMBS. Nate is the Senior Past ASMBS Integrated Health President. He is currently the co-chair of the Wernicke’s Task Force. He served on the TREO Foundation board of directors. He has held positions as the chairman of the Integrated Health Communication Committee, Co-Chair of the IH Membership Committee, Integrated Health Executive Council, Co-Chair of the 30th Anniversary Committee and various other ASMBS Task Forces and committees.  He has played a pivotal role in the establishment of the ASMBS-WM DPG network.
