    Each year the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Leadership Education in Pediatric Nutrition hosts a Pediatric Nutrition Intensive Course (PNIC). The purpose of this course is to increase the nutrition knowledge and skillset of health professionals working with infants, children and adolescents and their families. Over 300 individuals register each year for the PNIC.

    The 2026 PNIC will take place live via Zoom on 3 consecutive Fridays in May 2026:

    May 1- Focus on Clinical Nutrition/ Medical Nutrition Therapy

    May 8- Focus on Public Health / Community Nutrition

    May 15- Focus on Children and Youth with Disabilities

    We are accepting proposals for up to five 40-minute presentations each day, delivered live, facilitated by a moderator and followed by a short question and answer session.

    All proposals are due on or before 5PM Central time on Monday, January 12, 2026. Proposals will be reviewed as they are received, thus early submission is recommended. Complete proposals must be submitted via the submission link below, with CV sent to the email address indicated; only complete proposals will be considered.

    General Guidelines:

    ·         Speakers must be seasoned professionals with experience in presenting to professional groups publicly and virtually.

    ·         An individual can only submit one proposal.

    ·         Presentations must reflect cutting-edge research and practical applications.

    ·         Any potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed at the time of proposal submission.

    ·         The honorarium for each 40-minute presentation (with additional time for Q and A) is $450. Speakers will receive complimentary registration for the 3-day PNIC.

    ·         Potential speakers may include Registered Dietitians, Physicians, Nurses/Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Public Health professionals, and others.

    Possible Presentation Topics:

    While we welcome proposals on any topic, previous attendees have shown particular interest in the following areas:

    ·         Adolescent Nutrition, nutrition for young athletes

    ·         ARFID

    ·         Autism and Nutrition

    ·         Baby-led Weaning

    ·         Bone health

    ·         Breastfeeding

    ·         Calculations for pediatric practice with case studies

    ·         Cerebral Palsy

    ·         Cultural Sensitivity

    ·         Diabetes Type 1 and patient burnout

    ·         Down Syndrome

    ·         Eating Disorder Prevention

    ·         Food Allergies

    ·         Food insecurity, food deserts and impact on nutrition

    ·         GI disorders- IBD, IBS, MASLD, biliary atresia, EoE, constipation, GERD

    ·         GLP-1 and obesity medications in pediatrics

    ·         Infant / Pediatric formulas- updates, comparisons

    ·         Malnutrition (failure to thrive)

    ·         Mindful eating, HAES

    ·         Motivational Interviewing with pediatric populations

    ·         NICU graduate nutrition

    ·         NG tube placement by RDs

    ·         Obesity prevention

    ·         Picky Eater, Problem Feeder, Pediatric Feeding Disorder, ARFID- differentiation

    ·         Plant based diets

    ·         School based nutrition interventions

    ·         Vitamin Mineral Supplementation - criteria

    Submission Requirements:

    ·         A completed 2026 Pediatric Nutrition Intensive Course session proposal form.

    ·         A CV or resume that has been edited to no more than 4 pages long for the proposed speaker must be sent to aidamiles@uabmc.edu by the specified deadline. Make sure that the edited CV/resume contains pertinent information to evaluate the speaker's expertise in the proposed topic. The file name must be: Last Name First Initial CV.  Example: MilesA_CV
