Dr. Suzi Baxter completed her bachelor’s degree and a Coordinated Undergraduate Program at Texas Christian University, MS and PhD from Texas Woman’s University, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia. As Principal Investigator on numerous research grants funded mainly by the National Institutes of Health, her primary research has concerned the accuracy of dietary recalls by children. She has authored almost 100 peer-reviewed articles, 5 chapters, 180 poster or podium presentations, and 97 invited presentations. Dr. Baxter resigned her Research Professor position in late 2016 due to an acquired disability which impacts her mobility. Her service includes the South Carolina affiliate (past President; past Foundation Liaison; past IDEA Liaison), the Academy’s Cultures of Gender and Age MIG (current Treasurer; past Membership Chair), the Academy’s National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition, the Academy’s Research DPG (past Treasurer; past Diversity Liaison; current Mentor), the Academy (Co-Founder and Chair of Disabilities in Nutrition and Dietetics ["Disabilities"] Member Interest Group; 2022 Farm Bill Task Force member; 2022 Strategic Advancement Group for the Diversity and Inclusion focus area; Dietary Guidelines Affinity Group member; Health Equity and Diversity Affinity Group member; Evidence Analysis Library Adult Weight Management Workgroup; past member of the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group; Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Board of Editors member 2007–2022; member of the 2017–2019 Diversity Leaders Program), and the Academy Foundation (Philanthropy Council member; multi-year member and chair of the Scholarship Committee; Task Force Chair to create the Amy Joye Memorial Research Award). Dr. Baxter’s honors include the 2012 South Carolina Outstanding Dietitian of the Year, 2016 Research Dietetic Practice Group First Author Publication Award, and 2017 Monsen Award for Outstanding Research Literature.
