I am a senior oncology dietitian and an assistant clinical member of the Houston Methodist Research Institute my primary research focus is on using medical nutrition therapy and safe alternative interventions to improve outcomes for cancer patients and survivors. In the past few years I have increased my knowledge of clinical research and participated in the development of a mobile application to improve outcomes for cancer survivors. As a primary investigator of our MOCHA (Methodist Hospital Cancer Health Application) feasibility study, we were able to obtain preliminary data that has led to the improvement and refinement of MOCHA . My future goals are to improve MOCHA to help increase accountability and provide “real-time” care for patients desiring to make healthier lifestyle choices (diet, exercise and wellness). Additionally, my desire to improve cancer-patient outcomes has expanded my vision and research into investigating safe alternative methods to address cancer-related pain and distress using nature.
