Information for your Executive Committee

FNCE 2025 DPG/MIG Timeline

FNCE planning season is upon us once again Over the next several months you will be shoring up your FNCE events, with items coming due for staff to support the execution of the events you are planning.

In partnership with the Lifelong Learning and Conference and Events teams, the dates in this timeline have been established for FNCE planning and events. Please ensure relevant deliverables are provided to your DPG managers by the dates provided by DPG managers to ensure that requests can be accommodated Missed deadlines may result in delays for registration and lodging and may jeopardize planned events.

Every effort will be made to maintain deadlines. If due dates must be updated because of hotel, vendor, or other requirements, DPGs will be notified promptly by their DPG manager.

Please reach out to your DPG manager directly with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in Nashville!

Survey-DPG Town Hall and Volunteer Training

Over the past 2 years, you have been invited to attend and participate in DPG-focused Town Halls and Volunteer Training sessions. As the Academy continues to refine the DPG Program, we are seeking your feedback on the frequency, format, and content of these sessions. Town Halls have been hosted to discuss Academy updates and serve as a general forum for resource sharing, asking questions of your peers, and networking with other DPG leaders. Training Sessions have been provided to volunteer leaders to support learning and professional growth related to DPG leader responsibilities.

This survey will gather input on your experiences and perceptions of both. Please feel free to share this survey with any leaders in your DPG that have attended, or opted not to attend, these sessions. Please complete the survey by Friday, April 18th.  Survey results will be evaluated to determine the format, content, and timing of similar sessions in the next program year.

Please feel free to reach with any questions or comments. Thank you in advance for your valuable input and continued volunteer leadership!

Membership Pilot Opportunity

As described in the email sent by your DPG manager on behalf of the Academy membership team, a pilot is being launched to gauge non-member interest in joining the Academy by offering one free DPG for the first year of their membership as an effort to grow our professional community.

Review info from the Q&A session for additional info.

We are excited to try new avenues to highlight the multitude of opportunities for members to participate in Academy programs such as DPGs.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

New Publication Supports Impact of MNT in Malnutrition

Malnutrition contributes to illness and death, and RDNs play a key role in managing it through medical nutrition therapy (MNT). A systematic review funded by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation analyzed 11 studies – total of 86,740 participants - to assess MNT’s impact. Findings suggest MNT may shorten hospital stays, support healthy weight, and improve quality of life, though evidence remains low due to study heterogeneity. The effect on mortality and readmissions was unclear. More research is needed, especially in outpatient settings. Standardizing malnutrition diagnosis and involving dietitians in research can enhance nutrition interventions and health outcomes. This study funded by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. CDR Assess and Learn Updates

Assess & Learn Modules

Unlike most on-demand continuing education courses which simply provide information and test for understanding, CDR’s Assess and Learn modules also provide valuable learner feedback. This added feature allows practitioners to not only gain valuable knowledge and skills in areas related to one or more of CDR’s credentials (RD, RD-AP, DTR, CSG, CSO, CSR, CSP, CSPCC, CSSD, CSOWM), but also accurately self-evaluate their competence in specific areas in order to pinpoint additional learning needs.

Now Available: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (Pediatrics) Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guideline

Now Available: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (Pediatrics) Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guideline
Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is one of the most common chronic diseases among children and adolescents in the U.S. with a notable rise over the past two decades. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' has published new guidelines for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) offering medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to children and adolescents (ages 6–19) with T1DM. The new Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (Pediatrics)Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines are available via the Evidence Analysis Library, a member benefit, to direct evidence-based nutrition practice.
The guideline addresses several key areas including:
• Dietary Patterns: the effects of specific dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean, DASH, and low glycemic index diets
• Carbohydrate Management: evidence suggests that certain carbohydrate management strategies may offer small improvements in quality-of-life scores and overall confidence in prescribed dietary advice compared to other methods
• Diet Quality: limited evidence indicates that improvements in diet quality may be associated with better glycemic outcomes in this population
• Food Insecurity: the guideline examines the association between food insecurity and glycemic control, acknowledging the challenges faced by food-insecure families in managing T1DM
• Culturally Relevant Nutrition: the importance of culturally responsive nutrition interventions is highlighted
• Vitamin D Supplementation: the guideline reviews the role of vitamin D supplementation in glycemic control among youth with T1DM
• Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT): limited evidence reports that weekly MNT sessions for the first month after diagnosis and monthly sessions thereafter may reduce A1C levels in children and adolescents with T1DM
• Macronutrient Consumption: there is a lack of evidence to study the effect of differing amounts of macronutrient consumption in youth with T1DM on nutrition-related outcomes
Overall, the guideline emphasizes the need for individualized nutrition interventions and highlights areas where further research is necessary to optimize care for pediatric patients with T1DM. Personalized medical nutrition therapy is the specialty of registered dietitian nutritionists who can help young people with T1DM and their families implement healthful eating practices to support good blood sugar control, helping to reduce complications and potentially save healthcare dollars. Learn more about the guidelines and associated resources at www.andeal.org/t1dmp. The development of this guideline was funded by the Diabetes Care and Education Dietetic Practice Group via the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.

Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) and Nutrition and Dietetic Technicians, Registered (NDTRs) have long been essential in promoting health and preventing disease.
