First Time at FNCE? Start Here!

If this is your first time attending FNCE - welcome! This thread is here to help take the edge off.

We know the experience can feel a little overwhelming at first:
    - so many sessions…
    - so many people…
    - so little time to figure it all out...

That's exactly why this space exists. Use this thread to:

    - ask questions

    - share what you're wondering about

    - vent any nerves

    - swap helpful tips with others who've been there (or are right there with you!)

    No question is too small...seriously!

Whether you're looking for schedule tips, a hotel room buddy, Expo advice, networking suggestions, or just want a place to talk things out, you're in the right place.

Let's make your first FNCE feel a little more familiar...and a lot more FUN!

The important tip is to pack your "comfy kicks". You'll get all your steps daily and more.

Thanks for starting this thread! Do you know if I need to sign up for the regular sessions offered in order to get into the sessions of my choosing? I only saw the option to sign up for add ons when registering not the included sessions...

Nope; just show up to any breakout session or keynote listed within the regular programming. 😁

You just go to the sessions - no sign up needed.

It's been 15 years since I've attended FNCE and I can't remember if there is a dress code?

    Thanks,

    Diane

Nope. I notice most dress business casual, but it's entirely up to you. 😁

    Hello Drew,

I have always attended FNCE virtually in the past, so this will be my first year in person and very much looking forward to it.

Q1 - Will hard copy presentation slides be provided upon entering session, or should I plan on have paper / pen or laptop to take any notes?

Q2 - What food options will there be at the conference center?

Q3 - Is there separate time for viewing posters or booths outside of session time?

Q4 - I am reading news reports about ride share and rental care issues at Nashville airport.  The hotel in which I am staying at does not have a shuttle service from the airport.  Has FNCE conference individuals become aware of this issue being reported in the news, and are there any other shuttle options if Uber / any ride share is an issue?  My concern comes from some reports that some travelers have still not been able to get Uber even after 3 hours of waiting (this report was one week ago).

    Hello Maria,

I have not read anything about shuttle/Uber delays from the airport. Please share if you have other information.

The FNCE app should be ready to download in a week or so. It will have the full program so you can select the sessions you want to attend and add to your calendar. Most sessions will have the slides and handouts available, and a page for taking notes. No hard copies anymore! Posters and exhibits are scheduled concurrently with sessions so it is always a tough choice deciding what to attend!

I can't speak to food options at this location however there is usually some type of snack bar available, plus other venues in the nearby area and hotels.

Enjoy your first "live" FNCE- it is very different from the virtual event.

    Best,

    Linda

Hi Maria - I found that the FNCE newsletter (issue #1) has some great information in it regarding the event in Nashville. The city of Nashville has even put together a site for all attendees to help navigate the city from food to sightseeing and everything in between. Thought it might be helpful to share! The links are below:

    Hi, Maria!

According to the CVB, that was an isolated incident with several contributing factors to the traffic jam, but not an ongoing issue. BNA just added a new shuttle service available Sunday-Thursday (not available Friday/Saturday, unfortunately) that will take people from BNA to Music City Center for $25 as another alternate to Uber/Lyft if you want to check this out: https://graylinetn.com/nashville-airport-shuttle/

Wear comfy shoes! In fact, there's a fun challenge at FNCE where you'll have the chance to win free registration to FNCE 2026. Here are the details: https://www.eatrightpro.org/events/fnce/attendee-info/comfy-kicks-challenge

I've come over from Australia and will have my 6 year old with me.  I know she can't attend the sessions (I've organised a nanny for her), but is there anything she can attend with me?  Or any local recommendations for kids?

    Melanie,

The Adventure Science Center is only 1.2 miles from the Convention Center.  It's been 20 years since I last visited the museum but have fond memories of my experience with my oldest daughter.

Would a laptop be helpful/useful to have during the sessions?

Hi! I have an adult family member who is very interested to attend a few of the speakers. I was hoping to bring her as my guest, however, I read on the registration page that guests cannot attend educational sessions; am I reading this correctly that she would not be able to attend the speaking events? So they would really only be able to attend the Expo? Help me understand why. Thanks!

    Hi Jordan,

Yes, this is correct, guests cannot attend educational sessions. The Guest badge is a limited badge type designed for access to the Expo Hall and Keynote sessions only and is priced accordingly. To attend educational sessions, individuals would need to purchase a nonmember full conference badge.

Lauren, it's been a while since I purchased a Guest Pass. I think I selected a Guest pass when registering myself. In checking my receipt, I have an item listed as "Full Conference" under the (early bird) $150 fee.

Confirming that, despite the receipt description, it's only got keynotes & expo?
