Ultra processed foods need to be defined so that homemade applesauce without added sugar is not in the Ultra processed category.  I am appalled that it has taken this long for any health organization to look into it!
Next: there is a standard of identity for milk. Get the label 'milk' off containers of  rice, soy, almond and oat products.
There is criteria for the words meat and milk. Why isn't the criteria followed?
If there are better guidelines for Ultra processed foods it gives health professional a basis to post facts to counter balance influencers on social media

There are some other considerations. RE: Standard of Identity for "Milk" - Coconut Milk existed before the plant-based movement and Soy Milk was introduced and sold successfully long before other plant-based alternatives were introduced.

Several states have laws about plant foods and meat or dairy names. Yet "Butter" is defined in the FD&C Act and "Peanut Butter" has a Standard of Identity - both long established.

Thank you, Marie. It's always interesting to read the comments.

It is so important for nutrition professionals with a background in food and food science to comment on this issue. We need to make sure our voices are heard and that the FDA has more science-based information on the record for consideration. As you will see, the comments do not have to be a dissertation. A well-thought-out response in a few sentences is all that is needed, and yes, you have the option to post anonymously if you prefer.
