Emily L. Thevis, RDN, LD, CSOWM, CDE is the Director of Education at the National Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute in Biloxi, MS and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer for Northwest Weight and Wellness Center in Everett, WA. She previously acted as the Bariatric Coordinator for Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. She graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences and completed her internship at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA in 2013. She currently serves as the South Chapter Chair of the Diabetes Coalition of Mississippi. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Obesity Action Coalition. She became a Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management last year and recently passed her Certified Diabetes Educator exam. She has written for BariMD, Obesityhelp.com, and presented an oral abstract at Obesity Week 2017 on reducing readmission rates after bariatric surgery. Her professional passion lies in bariatric surgery and maximizing the role of dietitians in this field, as well as program administration.

Amanda Lavasseur, MS, RD, CSOWM, LDN is currently a Senior Bariatric Dietitian at Brigham and Women’s Surgical Associates in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Prior to this Amanda worked for 5 years in medical and surgical weight loss at New Horizon Medical in Foxboro, MA and The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. She has also worked as an inpatient dietitian for Rhode Island Hospital. Amanda received her bachelor’s degree through the University of Rhode Island and received her Master’s degree from Framingham State University through the Coordinated Program in Dietetics. Amanda is passionate about helping guide patients through their own unique journey in overcoming obesity. She works to bring patients the most up-to-date nutrition information while providing practical advice and the utmost support and motivation.
