Effects of a low carbohydrate diet in adults with type 1 diabetes management: A single arm nonrandomized clinical trial

10-14-2025 04:17 PM

This 12-week single arm clinical trial published in 2025 evaluated the safety and effectiveness of a low carbohydrate diet, defined as fewer than 100 grams of carbohydrates per day, for adults with type 1 diabetes. Participants received individualized support from a dietitian, used continuous glucose monitors, and tracked their dietary intake and insulin use. The intervention resulted in improvements in HbA1c, total daily insulin dose, body weight, glycemic variability, and time in range. No episodes of severe hypoglycemia or diabetic ketoacidosis occurred. The diet was well tolerated and participants reported high satisfaction, supporting its potential benefits under clinical supervision.
