Key Takeaways: This study is a 5-week middle school obesity intervention that examines the cost and effectiveness of Student for Nutrition and eXercise (SNaX). This combined with school-wide environmental changes, multimedia, and encouragement to eat healthy school cafeteria foods, and peer led education. The results showed that (SNaX) there was a significant increase in fruits and lunch, and a significant decrease in the proportion of students buying snacks. This study showed that (SNaX) is feasible and cost-effective in a middle school-based obesity prevention and intervention combined with school-wide environmental changes, multimedia, and encouragement to eat healthy school cafeteria foods, and peer led education, with modest cost and unlikely to be a barrier to adopt for many schools who decide to implement it.
