The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition at the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant, associate, or full professor with expertise in sports nutrition. This position is designated as a 9-month, tenure-track appointment set to begin in August 2020.
Faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours of undergraduate and/or graduate level courses each academic year. The candidate selected for this position will primarily teach classes relating to sports nutrition, human metabolism, and other possible relevant areas of academic expertise per departmental need; advise undergraduate and graduate students; coordinate undergraduate and graduate practicums/internships; develop and maintain a successful line of research and scholarly record; seek external funding that strengthens/broadens current areas of research; participate in both internal and external professional service activities; and demonstrate collaborative interests and collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement. Applicants should possess good interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English.
The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition is a new academic unit in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences that merges expertise in human anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and exercise science. The Department administers programs in Human Physiology and Nutrition (accredited DPD program), Exercise Science (BS), Applied Physiology (MSC), Strength and conditioning (BS-option, MS) and Sports Nutrition (MSc). Enrollment in these degree programs is expected to double in the next 5 years.
The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition will be housed in the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center (Hybl Center) upon its completion in the summer of 2020. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to promote a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative approach to education, research and clinical practice, driven by teamwork and a passion for translating research into real-world solutions. It will also promote the concept of "Exercise as Medicine" for patients with various diseases and/or disorders. This project benefits from a close partnership between UCCS and Penrose/St. Francis-Centura Health that brings together a unique and unparalleled combination of clinical practice, undergraduate and graduate education, combined with clinical, faculty and student research. The benefits will be numerous, including dedicated space specifically designed to foster collaboration in this first-of-its-kind facility.
Three centers of distinction will be housed within the Hybl Center, including the Center for Tactical and Occupational Performance, the Center for Athletes and Active Individuals with Physical Disabilities and the Center for Human Health & Performance in Extreme Environments. These centers will be the focus of collaboration between UCCS and Centura, combining existing knowledge and research with real-world application.
