Every time you eat, Have A Plant®

Contest sponsored by: The Foundation for Fresh Produce

The latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans encourage enjoying a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the day. Show us what that looks like in real life! From breakfast to dinner and every snack in between, how do fruits and vegetables show up on the plate in ways that support blood glucose management and satisfaction? We’re looking for diabetes-friendly recipes that reflect the many ways people eat – across cultures, cuisines, and traditions. Share your best diabetes-friendly recipes that make eating fruits and vegetables approachable, delicious, and doable at any eating occasion.

Contest open to all DDPG members!

Participate in our diabetes-friendly recipe contest with the Foundation for Fresh Produce, running from Thursday, March 19, 2026 - Monday, April 20, 2026. Details, prizes, contest rules and the submission template can be found below.

One Grand Prize: $1,000

The rules are simple! Recipes should:

    • All forms of nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables – fresh, canned, dried, frozen, and 100% juices – are acceptable.
  • Be an original recipe.

  • May be a main dish, side dish, dessert, or beverage.

  • Be appropriate for people with diabetes, reflecting a healthful, balanced plate:
    • Ingredients should focus on nutrient-dense whole foods while minimizing added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium, as possible.
    • When creating your recipe, consider the following food groups, as appropriate for the dish. Not all food groups need to be represented in every recipe.
      • Include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables
      • Focus on fiber-rich whole grains
      • Prioritize nutrient-dense protein foods (this can include lean meats or poultry, legumes, and/or beans)
      • Include dairy (specify whether using nonfat, low-fat, or full fat dairy products)

Recipes will be judged on their adherence to the guidelines above, as well as their plate appeal, nutrition quality, and ease/achievability. The top six recipes will be taste-tested by a blinded DDPG judging panel.
